Upgrading SSD and reinstalling windows 11.

I recently purchased a refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7020 with a 3.6ghz Intel i7-4790 and 32 GB RAM. It has Windows 11 Pro installed on a 500 GB SSD. I'm trying to upgrade the SSD to a 2TB SSD.

I've created a USB disk with Windows on it, but when I try to boot up the PC, the software says the system doesn't meet the minimum spec to support Windows 11. How can I go forward?

Windows 11 can be installed on unsupported PC by modifying registry keys or by third-party bootable applications.

I would recommend you upgrade your processor from the intel side at least i5 8th gen or from the AMD side ryzen 3200G to the supported Windows 11 os.

    Hi Stuart,

    Happy to help.

I see. There are ways to install Windows 11 on a system that doesn’t meet the hardware requirement but that is not recommended. That could be the way, the supplier may have used to install Windows 11. If you want Windows 11 on your computer which doesn’t support it officially, you can first install Windows 10, then bring the changes in the registry as described in my previous reply under “Warning” part.

    Thank you.

Thank you for your reply Abdullah! I understand now why it will not work - but - Windows 11 Pro was already operating satisfactorily on the 500GB SSD I am replacing, so I'm not sure how the supplier originally installed it.

Hello Stuart! My name is Abdullah, and I will assist you today.

I am sorry to know that you are experiencing this issue. Do you get the message when you are trying to install Windows 11 from a USB thumb drive? If yes, then it is because your processor doesn't support Windows 11. Please check the supported processor models listed below:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardw...

If you cannot find your processor model on the list, then that means that the processor model you have doesn't support Windows 11.

In case you are still interested in installing Windows 11 on a computer that doesn’t support it, you will need to have a Windows 10 operating system running on your computer. Please check the Warning part of below article and follow the instructions to upgrade:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/way...

    Thank you.

    Best,

    Abdullah
