Minecraft Preview not using d3d12 but d3d11 instead

Hello I am trying to use minecraft bedrocks new deferred technical preview.

I have installed multiple resource packs that support the feature but have ran into this error:

"resourcePack.incompatible.graphics.pbr"

doing some digging I found out that my minecraft preview is running d3d11 instead of d3d12 which would prevent it from using the new rendering capabilities.

I have checked the DirectX dianostic tool and it shows I'm capable of using DirectX12.

is there any way for me to make minecraft run d3d12?

I had the same problem, and it was because my laptop was using my integrated graphics card. It might be a laptop thing.

Even if you don't have a second video card in your laptop, it may still have 2 different modes: power savings and high performance. Minecraft preview defaulted to low power for me.

    • In windows, click the START button and type "Graphics Settings."
    • If you don't see Minecraft Preview in the list, click Add an App from the top and try choosing from the Microsoft Store.
    • Once it shows up, see if you can change your setting for the preview to "High performance."

After I did that and restarted the preview, I was able to select the Deferred Technical Preview in the video settings... after I installed and activated a PBR pack that used it. I used Vanilla PBR Light.

    Hi , Wiznerd.

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

What is your PC's config, because this error may be related to the NVIDIA RTX texture system for the minecraft system under test.

Just to verify because you didn't say which tab in dxdiag you referenced, or what brand and model graphics card your machine is using...

When you checked the dxdiag tool you looked in the Display Tab and saw Feature Levels 12_0 - 12_1 & 12_2, yes ?

You need an Nvidia RTX 2000 or AMD RX6000 or newer gpu to use DX12_2 Ray Tracing effects... aka - DX12 Ultimate.

But the game should still run when using non-Ray Tracing DX12 effects with any gpu that has Feature levels 12_0 - 12_1.
