Hello, I opened my network adapters via device manager. I see a bunch of wan mini ports. What are they? What are they for? Tried to uninstall and they come back upon restarting. How do I get rid of them? See attachment. Thanks!

Hi, Windows. I'm Robinson, and I’m happy to help you today.

This is normal and you don't need to worry about it, the WAN Miniport is a software adapter used by the operating system to access the WAN. In most cases, the WAN Miniport is used to connect to the Internet via the point-to-point protocol over the Ethernet connection.

Unless you are having problems connecting to the internet, it is not recommended to disable or uninstall the WAN Miniports, doing this could make your computer unable to connect to the internet.

Yes, WAN Miniports are updated through Windows Updates like the other drivers, even if you did not use them.

Thank you for your response. I don’t use Ethernet anymore haven’t in years. Saw it was added in 2021. Was it part of an update by chance?
