Automatically Connect is checked for ALL available networks.

By default, my device only connects to the router in my house, and that's fine.

But what is NOT fine, is that no matter what I do 'automatically connect' should NOT be connected to any of the other networks.

The ONLY network it should connect to, period, is BJBX

NONE of the other networks should have connect automatically set to on. Yet even if I turn them off, the next time I click them, it's set to on.

None of the solutions for this problem solve the issue. And nobody seems to want to address the problem this issue is causing.

This device is the only device I log into this account with.

I have device sync off as well.

The only way I can change the settings for wireless networks that I don't want my device to connect to (that I haven't connected to yet) is this interface.

No matter how many time I un check that damn box, even with synchronize accounts off, it always stays checked. The only router that should have that option checked at ANY point is the one that I am currently connected to. All of those others are my neighbors routers.

I have tried all of those steps before coming here with this issue. I wouldn't be coming here with said issue had those steps resolved it.

The only way you can adjust the 'connect automatically if in range' setting on a network is if you've connected to it before.

In this case, none of the other networks have been connected to. I have also gone through the circus of 'forgetting known networks' I no longer need.

As a result, the only way I can adjust 'connect automatically' setting is through the little check mark box.

Which I do, and then the next time I click that possible connection that setting is switched back on without my permission.

    Hi Blake,

Sometimes account synchronization does result in synchronization of settings and connection information between devices, which may explain why some devices automatically connect to networks to which they have previously connected.

If your account is logged in on multiple devices that have connected to similar networks, it may help to make sure that you disable the auto-connect setting for those networks on other devices!

    Your Sincerely

    Hi Blake,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

It sounds like you're experiencing persistent issues with your device's network settings, particularly the "automatically connect" feature for various networks. Let's try a step-by-step approach to tackle this:

    • You can use the Control Panel to manage the wireless network profiles on your device. To do this, follow these steps:
      1. Open Control Panel and select Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
      2. Click on Change adapter settings on the left side.
      3. Right-click on the Wi-Fi connection and select Properties.
      4. Click on the Wireless Networks tab.
      5. Select the network that you want to disable the automatic connection and click on Properties.
      6. Uncheck the option Connect when this network is in range and click OK.
      7. Repeat this for any other network that you want to disable the automatic connection.
      8. Click OK to close the Wi-Fi Properties window.
    • Network Reset: If the issue persists, you might consider resetting your device's network settings entirely. Remember to re-enter your Wi-Fi passwords and settings afterward.
    • If some Windows functions aren't working or Windows crashes, use the System File Checker to scan Windows and restore your files. Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files - Microsoft Support
    • A "clean boot" starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program. How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps.  If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
