Microphone Permissions not being recognized?

Hello,

A few days ago my computer stopped recognizing my permission for apps and websites to use my microphone (headset). The audio is working perfectly, and I can hear through my headset as normal, however, when I attempt to join a video call or other website/app that requires a microphone it prompts me to give permission for it to be used.

I have confirmed that my browser has access and permission to use my microphone.

I have confirmed my Windows microphone permissions as well, in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.

My computer is completely up-to-date.

The programs/sites I am not able to access due to this are currently: Google Meet, Zoom, Pronto (both website and app), and TalkDesk phone app. (Again - It's not even that I can join these applications and other people can't hear me, it's that these programs won't even allow me to join/enter at all.)

I have attempted tech support chat, and the link to start the chat brings me to a completely blank page (in multiple browsers - clearly not an issue on my end).

I have attempted to call the US tech support line, and it tells me that I have to use the chat feature - so here I am.

    Hello Freedom The Taube's.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Regarding to your information I assume that you can't use your microphone because of the Microphone permission error.

Based on your description, it seems that you are facing a permission issue. This could be caused by a corrupted account configuration file.

Therefore, I suggest you try the following steps and let us know the results:

Please create a new test account, and switch to the newly created account to see if the Microphone is working as normal.

This troubleshooting step can help isolate the problem due to an invalid profile configuration.

Create a local user or administrator account in Windows - Microsoft Support

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,

Tommy-MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
