When selecting multiple files in File Explorer it no longer shows details for them
Prior to the recent updates, I could select multiple files in File Explorer and it would provide the total size for the selection in the right hand column. Now it only shows the number of files selected and provides instructions to select only one file to get the size. I need to know the total size to email.
Why does Microsoft have to change stuff that works????

2023-11-27T21:56:15+00:00 That screenshot indicates you have the latest version of File Explorer, they are working on improving the Details and Preview panes in that version, the size option will probably reappear in a future update, but for not, you have that size displayed on the bottom left.
Luckily, I found that if you right click and view properties, you do see the cumulative info for the files selected, such as the cumulative time element for multiple mp3 or wav files. Not efficient and unfortunate that they made what should be a basic and simple function more difficult.

Here's additional clarification/information:
My current view is set at Large icons, with the Details (pane) selected, breaking up the view/screen to 3 panels - left side view is the tree; middle shows the files; right side has the details of the file (when only 1 file is selected).
Before the recent updates, I could select multiple files and the Details column would show the number of files and the size. Now it shows the number of items selected and to 'Select a single file to get more information...'

The OP shows a Windows 11 screenshot, so that indicates we're talking about Windows 11 here, even though this has been posted in the Windows 10 forum.
Some people may suggest uninstalling updates until you get back the older Windows 11 Explorer, but that's not a good strategy. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't separate the Explorer updates from other important security updates.
There are some options to get back direct editing of properties in the Details pane in Windows 11 that involve switching to the Windows 10 Explorer that is still built into Windows 11. See:

I wouldn't hold my breath on Microsoft bringing back direct editing of properties in the Windows 11 Explorer Details pane, but you never know.

if you select multiple files, on the bottom status bar in Files Explorer, does it not show the number of files in the folder, the number of selected files and total size of the selected files?
