Windows 11 slows down when switching apps from different monitors

Hello,

i have a dual monitor setup and I've been having an issue for a few months where Windows 11 used to randomly slow down and i didn't know why. While I haven't found the solution, I found out the actions that cause this, and it's that when I have for example a browser on my Monitor1 and another app on my Monitor2, if I use the app on my Monitor2 and then switch to my browser on Monitor1 to download something for example, for a period that goes between 15 seconds to 2 minutes every action is extremely slow. This happens both if I go from Monitor1 to Monitor2 and viceversa.

I was able to understand that this was what caused the issue because over time I attempted a lot of fixes but they never solved it. Here's everything I've already attempted to do:

  • Updated graphics driver: no difference
  • Buyed new components: i've changed RAM, MOBO, CPU, switched a secondary (not even the main) HDD to an SSD - initially helped a bit, but then no difference
  • Tried using multiple virus removal services: nothing was found, so no difference
  • Changed monitor: no difference, this happens on every dual monitor even when they have same resolution and refresh rate
  • Changed cables: tried different hdmi and displayports, no difference
  • Changed battery saving settings: they were already at max, no difference when I changed it
  • Reinstalling windows 11: no difference

Using a single monitor does have this issue but in a way more limited way and it only affects intense apps which I may expect some loading time in the first 3 seconds (very far from the previous 2 minutes of slowing time).

After the 15 seconds to 2 minutes slowing time, everything works normally, mouse pointer doesn't lag and I'm able to work at high speed.

When I look at the Task Manager I don't see any issue, gpu and cpu were low when they had to be low and high when they had to be (like using a rendering software).

I've already spent a lot of money to change the components listed above and I don't want to spend more to buy a completely new PC. Can you help me solving this issue? I can attach any log or proof you need.

Here's my component list:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
  • MOBO: Gigabyte B360M DS3H
  • GPU: Nvidia 3060 TI
  • RAM: 32GB Ram 3600mhz (using XMP)
  • Memory: 2x 1TB SSD (1 m.2, 1 sata) + 500gb SATA SSD
  • Monitors: Acer QG271 27'' and Philips ENVIA 27''

Thanks in advance

    Hi palcouk,

When I bought the new MOBO I've already updated the drivers and the bios.

As said, I've already updated the graphics card drivers and I've already tried changing the power settings. The issue is still present.

I've already got the latest windows update, and I may remind you that this issue was there since a few months ago so it was present in the previous windows versions as well

Update both bios & drivers from the mobo maker, then set bios to defaults & pwr to balanced

    Update Vid drivers from Nvidia

In win update settings if you have "Get latest" selected turn it off

    Then see how you go
