I purchased a new HP laptop with Windows 11 installed. I cannot access Windows on my new laptop because my Windows 10 subscription for my old computer is expired. However, my email address was associated with the old computer and it seems that I need help to activate this new pre-installed subscription.

Angela, you do have Windows 11, S mode only means you must download apps from the store app, and cannot download any app from outside of the store app. So it is not relevant here. You can always switch out of S mode for free

I am not sure what you meant by Microsoft 365 is a bundle and Windows is not. What I am trying to say is Windows 11 itself doesn't come with MS365. Unless it is a promotion offered to you by the computer's manufacturer, in your case, it is HP. This is why HP should be contacted for this issue, to understand better what is all included in your order.

This is similar to the case when you buy a car, it typically doesn't come with XM satellite radio subscription. But the car dealership might give you a year's subscription as a bundle deal or promotion. If you don't receive that subscription or if the promption is cut short, you contact the car dealership, not XM radio.

    Hello Angela, this is Emily.

Any chance you are talking about Office 365, apps like Word, Excel, Powerpoint? Office 365 is not the same as Windows, and it does require separate license. I would imagine your Windows 11 is already activated considering it came with the device.

Because you don't have the Office 365 subscription anymore, and it does require separate license, having a computer that comes with Windows doesn't mean it also comes with Office 365. I know that sometimes computer manufacturers will include a subscription for you as promotion, or a trial, but that is not being offered by Microsoft. In that case, it would be offered by HP. I just want to make sure if HP did offer that to you when you purchased this computer? If so, they should provide you with the redeem code/token, or digital delivery in some way for you to activate that. If you are not sure, it is best to contact HP support, provide them your purchase order ID and have them check to see if your purchase should also include Office 365.

    Hi Emily,

I understand that Microsoft 365 is a bundle and that Windows is not. However, the new laptop had "Windows 11 Home in S Mode" listed on the label. I assumed it came with Windows 11. It just seems like it should be running for a year before they hit you up for a subscription.
