Black Background of Folder Icons in Explorer?

Hello,

I am currently running Windows 11 on my system the new version 23H2

For about two weeks or so now I have began to notice that when I go into my Download Folder - my Folders have a black box background only on some of them. As you can see by the image below.

A few steps I have already tried is an SFC /Scannow and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

I have performed all windows updates, there are no Nividia graphic driver updates. and I have restarted my PC. Yet the issue is still occurring?

Based on your workaround, it seems that it was a corrupted icon. I am glad that the workaround steps you have did work. You can also change the icon of the folder with a new folder as another workaround.

    Stay safe.

I will make note of those,

I did not uninstall my drivers but my graphics driver did update yesterday but the issue still occurred.

This issue came out of the blue no drivers updates or anything it just happened.

I have not tried a clean boot.

but what I did notice is that when I created a new folder it did not have the black box background so what I did was created a new folder, cut the content from the old folder to the new folder and once the contents of the folder that had the box was removed the folder icon went back to normal. so now all the folders are normal again.

if the issue should occur again, I will try some of the above steps

    Hi,

Kayece here, An Independent advisor and a user just like you. I will be happy to assist you today.

Based on your description, it seems that it has to do with your graphics driver or the recent updates.

*May I ask if you have already uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics driver?

*Has this issue occurred after you have updated or installed the driver/software on your PC?

*Have you tried to perform a clean boot? If not, here is the link to perform a clean boot.
