Hello everyone. I've a problem in desktop icons.

Settings > Personalization > Themes > Desktop icon settings

I pinned user icon on my desktop but, the user icon looks like a regular folder. This problem is only on my PC. I formatted a lot of computers. After formatting, the user icon looks like a user icon. But it is only on PC. It shows a regular folder.

When I ctrl +, it looks like a user icon but, I don't want to do this.

    Download usericon.ico.

Press Win + R and type the following command exactly:

    • control desk.cpl,,0

    Press Enter.

(This opens the Desktop Icon Settings dialog.)

Click on your User icon, click "Change Icon".

Browse and select usericon.ico which you downloaded in Step 1.

    Click Apply, OK.

    That should do the trick!

    Thank you for helping!

I tried all the methods. The user icon still looks like a normal folder.

    Hello,Rufiq Cavadov1

Thank you for your reply and sorry to hear that. If it's convenient, you can click on Start Icon - Settings - System - System Consultation and share with me a screenshot of the Windows specification information and I will test and reproduce this issue of not being able to change to a user icon based on your system version.

Thanks in advance for your patience and cooperation!

    Best Regards,

    Hello,Rufiq Cavadov1

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

Based on your picture and description, I understand that you have a problem with the folder icon still showing up as a regular folder after changing it, so there are a few things you can try:

    1. Please select Settings > Personalization > Themes > Desktop icon settings > Tick the "Allow the scenery theme to change the desktop icon" at the bottom > Click "OK". Click "OK". Then go to Settings > Personalisation > Themes and switch the "current theme" to any one of them, and then switch back to see if the problem is solved.
    2. If the above does not work, clean up the icon cache. Open C:\Users\current username\AppData\Local folder, find the file named IconCache.db, right-click to delete, restart the computer to try to solve the problem.

Please note that AppData is a hidden file, in the file explorer, and then click on the "View" menu; in the open view toolbar, find the "Options" icon, click on the icon; select the "View" tab; cancel the "Options" icon; select the "Options" icon and click on the "Options" icon. "tab; remove the check in front of "Hide protected operating system files", and then select "Show hidden files, folders or drives". Finally, click the OK button. If there is a warning window, click OK, and then you can see the hidden files.

    1. If the second option does not work, create a new account to check for user profile errors, as described in the steps below: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows - Microsoft Support

I wish you all the best and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I look forward to hearing from you which will determine where we go next!

    Best Regards,
