Can't change game installation drive in Microsoft store
I want to download games in Microsoft store on a different drive but it doesn't let me do it.
I'm well aware I could change where new content is saved but I don't want to save all my other stuff on a different drive, just specific apps and games.

2024-03-07T22:12:00+00:00 Thanks for the reply. I actually went ahead and partitioned the external drive into two separate drives then formatted the new partition to NTFS from EXFat and copied all files over to the new NTFS partition. I don't think this step was necessary but I had already done it and had formatted the remaining partition to NTFS as well but I had to just delete that partition then extended the new partition with all the files on it to the unallocated empty partition and assigned the the drive to be the D: drive and now I'm able to use it for Microsoft Store apps. I did the formatting with Diskgenius and the file copying with goodsync. Both free apps. It would have been easier with an extra drive but since I didn't have an extra drive and I luckily had enough space to do everything on one drive that's what worked for me.

You can change the settings before you download some new apps and games. By doing this, you can save apps and games to where you want.
If you want to change the location where the store saves your downloaded apps and games, you can go to "Settings" > "System" > "Storage" > "Change where new content is saved" and change the locations you want.

2024-02-21T02:18:43+00:00 I found out that my drive was a different file system to what microsoft use. So you'd have to format it to the same file sysyem. Take note that formatting it deletes everything in the drive so either move it to another drive or just save evrything important and say goodbye to everything else.
Although I'm not sure for your case since it seems like it was fine for you before

2024-02-21T01:23:45+00:00 I've noticed the same thing lately. I have 2 external drives where I install ALL my games and large files (I have a laptop, with 118GB on the C drive). I had it set to where everything installed on one of the external drives, but now everything is installing on the D data drive. I'm not sure what Microsoft has done in the last month or so, but this change is a bad one. I did just go in and change were new stuff is saved to, but also finding it didn't change the Xbox games and apps storage install option within the store.
