Windows 10 Update Issues (Error Code 0x80071ab1 and CPU Compatibility)

I am facing challenges updating my Windows 10 system from version 21H1 to 22H2, encountering two errors in the process.

  1. Attempting the standard update method results in the following error: "We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer." Error Code: 0x80071ab1
  2. If i use the windows update assistant, I encounter a CPU compatibility error indicating: "CPU isn't supported (lahf/sahf)." I tried updating it yesterday and it showed that my pc is supported but I had other stuff to do so i decided to do it later (today). But when i tried to update using the assistant today, it gave me that error.

My system specs:

  • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300U CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.50 GHz
  • Installed RAM: 8.00 GB (7.41 GB usable)
  • System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I have updated my pc before so im confused why this is happening. Any help would be much appreciated.

Use the Media Creation Tool (instead of the Installation Assistant) to upgrade to 22H2.

See How to perform an In-place Upgrade with Windows 10 Step-by-Step Guide - Microsoft Community.

If the installation doesn't succeed, share the following setup log files on OneDrive/Dropbox and post the link here:

    • Open the "C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources" folder.
    • Select the two folders, "Panther" and "Rollback" (if present).
    • Copy the two folders to the desktop and Zip them.
    • Upload the zip file to OneDrive/Dropbox/WeTransfer.
