Windows 10 update: a driver update for my 10 years old monitor that is no longer sold for a long time?

Hi, for the past few weeks, if I look in the optional Windows 10 updates, I see a driver update that specifically says its for my 10 years old monitor. I never found a monitor for it in Windows-10. I had to sort of make one with the Windows-XP driver version.

So I am confused as to why suddenly Windows-10 updates tells me now it has a driver for it???

So I am wondering if this is true or if it will mess up things.

As shown in the option driver update as "ViewSonic - Display - ViewSonic VX2453 Series"

Can someone on Microsoft side tell me what this driver is because I think its a bug or something worst?

Being selective about the sources from which you download is a wise practice. If trust was an issue in the past, it's even more challenging now.

And yeah, although this forum is affiliated with Microsoft and primarily designed for Microsoft Support, the community actively engages in mutual assistance. Periodically, you'll come across MVPs or moderators who are integral parts of this community.

I got the Win-XP driver from the CD installation that came with my monitor.

I generally do not download anything from sites I do not know or seams a bit fishy. I download only from trusted sites.

Good advise on creating a restore point before. I did not think about this.

    I will try it out.

I always thought this forum was monitored by Microsoft folks .....

Hello, thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. I am here to help and provide assistance with any questions or concerns you may have.

I'm curious to know why you mentioned creating your own driver based on the XP driver. I ask because I found a driver for the same model dated August 25, 2010, on this website: https://treexy.com/products/driver-fusion/datab...

I could be mistaken and that driver could not even work for you, so I'm just wondering if there's something I might be missing.

Note: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

But at the end, it’s not uncommon for older hardware to receive driver updates, even if the product is no longer sold. This can happen when the manufacturer or Microsoft identifies a bug, compatibility issue, or security vulnerability that needs to be addressed.

In your case, the “ViewSonic - Display - ViewSonic VX2453 Series” driver update you’re seeing is likely a legitimate update for your monitor.

If you’re concerned about the update causing issues, you could create a system restore point before installing it. This way, if anything goes wrong, you can revert your system back to its previous state.
