Why does Windows keep disabling the McAfee app with every update?

I have Windows 10 Home on my laptop and Windows 10 Professional on my desktop. On my laptop with Windows 10 Home, every single time Windows installs an update, the McAfee app becomes unresponsive and then has to be completely uninstalled and reinstalled. This only happens with my Windows 10 Home computer but not with my Windows 10 Professional computer. It only takes effect after the forced Restart. Parts of it are still running in the background according to Task Manager, but the app itself is unresponsive and cannot be opened, and none of its features are accessible. It only happens after Windows updates. After every single Window update. I have contacted McAfee about this and they said to uninstall and reinstall the app. Which does solve the problem - that is, until there is another update a few days later. Why is this happening and what can be done to prevent it? It is super frustrating. Thanks.

    Hi Sabine,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with McAfee after Windows updates. This could be due to compatibility issues between the McAfee app and the Windows updates.

Sometimes, Windows updates can conflict with certain antivirus software, causing them to become unresponsive or malfunction. This could be due to changes in system settings or conflicts with specific components of the antivirus software. You can also try contacting McAfee support again to see if they have any updates or solutions to this issue.

Check the Event Viewer logs after the update to see if there are any error messages or events related to McAfee. This might give you more insight into what specifically is causing the issue.

If the problem persists and McAfee continues to be problematic after Windows updates, consider using an alternative antivirus solution that might not have compatibility issues with Windows updates.
