How to transfer everything from one Windows computer to another

I recently got a new Asus VivoBook and I thought everything would switch over from my old one but nothing has. I am signed in under the same account, they are both Windows 11, and I have selected all of the "remember my preferences" settings on both computers but still nothing is switching over. What do I do?

Greetings, Kaya! My name is Arif, and I will assist you today.

    1. To easily transfer files and settings between Windows computers, consider utilizing Microsoft's OneDrive cloud storage service.
    • On the old computer, sign in to OneDrive with your Microsoft account.
    • Upload the desired files to OneDrive.
    • On the new computer, sign in to OneDrive with the same Microsoft account.
    • Download the files from OneDrive to your new computer.
    1. Alternatively, you can utilize ASUS Switch for a local network transfer:
    • Install ASUS Switch on both computers.
    • Connect both computers to the same local network.
    • Open ASUS Switch on both computers.
    • On the old computer, choose "Transfer data from current device"; on the new - computer, select "Migrate data to the current device."
    • Input the pairing code from the old computer into the new computer.
    • Select the files and applications to transfer, then click "Start Transfer."

If you choose to transfer files using an external storage device, you can refer to the steps outlined in the article below:

    Warm Regards,

    Arif

It is pretty sad that in 2024, with the "11th" version of Windows, Microsoft had not made a program that would make upgrading to a new PC super easy.

Samsung, Android, even Apple have all had program for this for years.

We found a way to solve this problem - for our situation.

My wife finally decided that migrating from her old Windows PC to a new Windows PC was too much of a hassle and she decided to switch to Mac. Apple offers a Windows to MacOS migration tool that automates the entire process and transfers everything.

"Transferring everything" from one computer to another implies installed programs, too. All the responses to this thread seem to avoid that and just talk about data. No, the desire is to retire an old computer and then start working on a new one without having to go through program reinstallations. My little PC, for example, has over 100 installed programs. I will not buy a new PC to replace my 2013 Dell until I can figure out how to transfer both installed programs, with their preferences set, and all data, to the new computer.

    Any answers to that question?

    Thanks,

    Tom

Thanks for posting Gil. Not sure if we'll get a reply. I posted on Mar 13 and you're the only one who has replied.

I've looked at several websites that "supposedly" explain how to transfer data to a new Windows computer. All of them say the same thing: "Transfer the files you watt to the new computer"

I haven't found a website that explains how to transfer everything (apps, files. settings, etc) so that the new computer will look and act identical to the old computer.
