Control + minus set to zoom, not en dash

I'm not sure how this occurred, but I've always been able to use Control + Minus to get an en dash. Now, when I use that key combination, it instead controls my screen/document zoom such that it reduces the screen (or zooms in if I hit Control + Plus). I don't want this b/c I need to be able to use Control + minus to get an en dash. How do I make this correction?

Thanks.

Yes, I have been using Ctrl + Num - for en dash for years, and it was not assigned to ViewZoomOut before (only Ctrl + - was). For some reasons, it was changed to Zoom Out since a few days ago.

To fix this, just as Stephanie said, go to File --> Word options --> Customized Ribbon --> Keyboard shortcuts (customize) --> Categories (go to the bottom, find Common Symbols, then find En Dash and assign the Ctrl + Num - again).

This fix for me. If you are stuck, you may need to "unassign" that shortcut from ViewZoomOut.

Now I have my en dash back.

    I am using Word.

I've used Ctrl+Minus for an en dash for many, many years and never had that key combination apply to pan/zoom.

But yes, it can be removed. I figured out how to fix it through Word options-->Customize Ribbon-->Keyboard Shortcuts.

Now when I type Ctrl+Minus I get the en dash. :-)

Well done, I am glad you have solved this, another method in Word is to use Ctrl + Alt + Minus for the en dash

    Hi Dave,

Kindly note that Ctrl + Alt + Minus is an Em dash, not an En dash.

I believe Ctrl + Alt + Minus is for em dash instead.
