GPU Temperature Problem Windows 11

Hello Microsoft,

I have recently purchased a gaming laptop. I am loving it so far. However, recently I noticed an issue where my task manager’s GPU Temperature monitoring is stuck at one number. Other words, showing inaccurate temperatures or not showing them at all. I could be playing highly intensive video game where my GPU is at 65-70C, but on task manager it shows the temperature is at 40C as if I just turned on the system. I own a NVIDIA RTX 4070. I have contacted NVIDIA about this issue and they said this is not a hardware issue. They stated that this is a Windows / Windows 11 issue. I regularly update windows to get the best performance. They told me to try create a new Windows user and see if it worked there, it does. Temperature Sensor is out of the equation because through NVIDIAS GForce Experience app, it shows the accurate temperature. As soon as I turn this overlay to monitor my performance off the task manager GPU Temp stops showing the temperature in real time. This is a weird problem I have never encountered before. I’d like to point out that this issue does not affect Windows performance, gaming performance, FPS Drops. I literally don’t know what’s going on. I will get to the bottom of this though. I’d appreciate any comments. Thanks lads.

    Hello Tosh Mackins,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and we regret the inconvenience caused to you.

If you mean the temperature beside GPU in the Performance from Task Manager... On some computers (for example my working machine and VMs) there is no GPU temperature because the graphic card's driver does not provide it, so it's true that it's not a hardware issue but still a driver issue. In our case I guess it's because the graphic card driver does not tell Task Manager how to trigger a real-time temperature to be sent. The thing we can do so far I can think, is to check if there is any new driver from the manufacturer and then install it.

    Best Regards,
