Laptop goes to sleep as soon as display turns off despite being set to never

Hello, I have an Asus ProArt Studiobook 16.

Fresh install of windows 11, all drivers up to date. I like my computers to stay on constantly when they are plugged in so that they can run programs in the background or be accessible via remote desktop at any time. No matter what power settings I change as soon as the computer shuts off the display, it goes to sleep. I would like the display to be able to shut off with the laptop still running as it's an OLED and I don't want to burn in my screen. Doesn't matter if the laptop is plugged in or unplugged, it goes to sleep whenever the display is shut off. Sleep is set to never.

    Hi Ian,

Here are my current settings. For testing purposes I have my display to turn off after 1 minute - just so I can see if I have resolved my issue with the computer going to sleep as soon as the display turns off without having to wait for an extended period of time.

In your post you told me to set my display to turn off never. I think you miss my issue, I want my display to turn off, especially since I have an OLED. I just want the computer to remain turned on with the display off. My issue is the moment my display shuts off, the computer goes to sleep.

According to your current configuration, this will set your laptop to do exactly what you want it to do.

Otherwise, it is possible that your current laptop may override this functionality. Might be via BIOS or your update driver.

I would suggest to submit feedback to the support engineer team so that they can add this in the future releases.

You may want to consider contacting your laptop manufacturer for help. They can offer specific guidance and recommendations based on your laptop's model and configuration.

Hello. Did I ever mention dontsleep.exe app? It is on portableapps.com .

Hi Brian, as a last resort I will give this a shot. For the time being I am going to try and figure out why the built in feature in windows is not working correctly. Thanks

Hi NolanCunningham, hope you're doing well. I'm Ian, and I'm happy to help you today.

Ensure your laptop is set to never sleep in Windows Power Options. To check, follow these steps:

    1. Right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar and select "Power Options."
    2. Click on "Additional power settings" under "Show additional plans."
    3. Choose the plan that is currently in use, typically "Balanced" or "Power saver."
    4. Click on "Change plan settings."
    5. Click on "Change advanced power settings."
    6. Scroll down to "Display" and make sure that the "Turn off display after" setting is set to "Never."

Disable any screen saver settings since they may turn off display sleep function.

    1. Go back to "Change advanced power settings."
    2. Scroll down to "Screen saver" and set it to "None.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you need anything else.
