Windows 11 automatically connecting with Wifi 4 instead of Wifi 6

I have a Wifi 6 capable wireless router that works just fine, although my windows 11 PC connects to it automatically with Wifi 4 protocol until I manually disconnect from it and re-connect, then it's using Wifi 6. I set the wireless adapter to 5GHz only mode, my mobile always displays the wifi protocol as Wifi 6, so it's only the PC that for some reason prefers Wifi 4. There is no option in my wireless driver to set the connection mode to *ax exclusive.

Is there a solution to force windows to always try connecting with 802.11ax protocol?

Not sure why the exact model of my router is any relevant, if it implements a specific wifi standard, but it's a Mikrotik C52iG-5HaxD2HaxD-TC. I was trying to upload some pictures tho, but the site didn't let me. Motherboard is a ASUS ROG STRIX B760-I, it has a Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160MHz on it.

Additional info is that my 13th gen lenovo thinkpad with same windows 11 on it is doing the exact same thing. My android phone on the other hand always connects as wifi 6, so I believe it's not a hardware but a windows issue.

My router does not have a simple "band strength" option, not sure how else it could be configured, but I doubt it's not set to the best available option by default. Also, if the issue is with my router, why can my phone always connect to Wifi 6 automatically? 2.4 and 5GHz are already separated, auto connect turned on only for the 5GHz one.

Yes, both my desktop and laptop has the same intel network chip. They are in the same space, Windows displays the signal strength at the maximum 4 bars.

I have the connect automatically checkbox checked for a single network: The 5GHz channel of the wifi6 capable one. My problem is, when it is connecting to it automatically, it for some reason is using Wifi 4. If I disconnect from it, then manually click the "Connect" button, it connects with Wifi 6 protocol.

There is normally a connect automatically box for each network, you can check. If you don't want that, uncheck the box and just leave the one for the Wi-Fi 6 checked.

Make sure and check the link speeds for the Wi-Fi 6, in case is it having a problem.

If you don't tell us what the model of your WiFi router is and what the exact model of your WiFi adapter is, how do you think we can help you?

Specify the exact make and model of your computer or, alternatively, type msinfo in the search box and post a screenshot of the system specifications. Go to Device Manager, expand network adapters, post a screenshot.
