Hdr not supported right after new monitor plugged in

My tcl 55inch 4k hdr tv was working perfectly fine with hdr and I got a new monitor plugged it in and now it says that hdr is not supported on my tv. It isn’t the cable because I used the HDMI from the tv to the new monitor and when plugged in windows says that hdr is supported on the new monitor. The new monitor also flashes and stutters with hdr turned on in windows. This is really frustrating as it was just working prior to new monitor. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the gpu driver and don’t know what else to do. I have a 1070ti and 8700k cpu

    Hi Adrian,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with HDR on your display. HDR stands for high dynamic range, and it is a technology that improves the contrast and color of the content you see on the screen.

There are several possible reasons why HDR is not working on your TV after plugging in a new monitor. Here are some steps you can try to fix the problem:

    • Check if your TV and monitor are both HDR-compatible. You can use the dxdiag tool to verify this. If your display does not have an HDR certification, it might be because it does not support HDR or the manufacturer has not published the certification information.

To check if the display is capable of HDR content on Windows, use these steps:

    Open Start.

Search for dxdiag and click the top result to open the app.

    Click the System tab.

Click the Save All Information button.

    DirectX save all information

Select a location to save the output file.

    Click the Save button.

    Open the file with Notepad.

Search for Advanced Color and determine if HDR is supported:

AdvancedColorSupported – indicates display driver with support for HDR10 is installed.

AdvancedColorEnabled – indicates that HDR is enabled.

Search for Monitor Capabilities and confirm it reads HDR Supported to determine that HDR10 is supported. If one or more requirements are missing, then you'll see the HDR Not Supported message.Quick note: If you also see "BT2020RGB" or "BT2020YCC", then the panel is capable of HDR10, and the "Eotf2084Supported" indicates that the display is capable of HDR.

    • Check if you are using an HDMI cable that supports HDR (HDMI 2.0 or higher) and that it is properly connected to an HDMI port on both your display and graphics card. Try using a different HDMI port on your display or a different HDMI cable to rule out any potential issues with the connection.
    • Check if HDR is enabled on your TV and monitor settings. Some displays may require you to manually turn on HDR mode or select a specific input for HDR content. Refer to your display's manual for more information.
    • Check if HDR is enabled on Windows 11. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display and turning on the Use HDR toggle¹. You may also need to adjust the HDR brightness and SDR brightness sliders to get the best picture quality.
    • Check if the app or game you are using supports HDR. Not all apps and games are optimized for HDR, and some may require additional settings or updates to work properly.

I hope these steps help you resolve the HDR issue on your display. If you need more assistance, you can contact the display manufacturer's customer service.

    Your Sincerely
