    Microsoft Security Essentials downloads with Windows updates and runs a scan on your system to help ensure it is malware free, it also checks any software running on your PC to ensure they do not contain malware, rest assured that is a legitimate Microsoft process and it will do no harm on your system.

    Microsoft Security Essentials is old software and it reached end of service on January 14, 2020 and it is no longer available to download.

    If you are on Windows 11, you should uninstall Security Essentials, because it no longer gets definition updates and rely on Windows Security in Windows 11, it is a full security suite that will fully protect your system.
