PC crashes after gaming. Event viewer filled with ERRORS pertaining to GameInput

As stated, my PC has been crashing AFTER a gaming session recently. I verified it was NOT heat related (via MSI Afterburner and HWinfo64) and even reapplied thermal paste to my CPU.

Looked in Event Viewer and noticed a whole lot of ERRORS and the vast majority of them are always GameInput related.

Examples:

"The GameInput Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 1000 milliseconds: Restart the service."

"The GameInput Service service terminated with the following error:

The compound file GameInput Service was produced with a newer version of storage."

"The GameInput Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 2 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 1000 milliseconds: Restart the service."

"The GameInput Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 6 time(s)."

Any and all help will be much appreciated.

R/ James

This has solved it for me.

    Gameinput service stops working after Windows 11 update KB5032288 : r/WindowsHelp (reddit.com)

Thanks go to u/Tatsujinsan for figuring it out. After following his instructions I am no longer getting multiple errors in event viewer or random reboots. It would be nice if Microsoft could properly roll out updates that don't require users (me) to spend a whole day trying to debunk something that wasn't a problem beforehand.

Tried working this and found the duplicate file, deleted it. Couple days later, PC crashed out of nowhere.

Any timeline for an update from MS to solve this issue?

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Please check to see if your PC is producing any minidump files, I will check those to see if they provide any insight into a potential cause of the system crashes.

    Open Windows File Explorer.

    Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy any minidump files onto your Desktop, then zip those up.

Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox... etc.), then choose to share those and get a share link.

Then post the link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you.
