    Hello, Toni nguyen1

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

When your monitor refresh rate setting suddenly changes and you encounter problems when trying to revert to the original setting, this can be caused by a number of factors. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and solve the problem:

    1. Check the monitor connection cable:

If the cable is damaged or has poor contact, it may also cause this problem

    1. Check monitor settings:

Check directly in the monitor's physical button menu for the relevant refresh rate setting options.

    1. Update the graphics card driver:

Open Device Manager (you can type "device manager" in the search bar).

Expand "Display Adapters", right-click on your NVIDIA GTX 1060 and select "Update Drivers".

You can choose to automatically search for newer drivers, or download and install the latest drivers from the NVIDIA website.

    1. Use the NVIDIA Control Panel:

Right-click on your desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel".

Under the "Display" section, select "Change Resolution".

Here you should be able to set the desired refresh rate. If 144Hz is not available, try selecting "Custom" and manually creating a new resolution configuration.

    1. Reset monitor settings:

Try resetting the monitor to factory settings.

    1. Check Windows display settings:

Open Settings > System > Display.

Check the refresh rate options in Advanced Display Settings.

    1. Try another monitor:

If possible, try connecting your PC to another monitor that supports 144Hz to confirm if the problem is with the monitor itself.

    1. Check the power settings:

Make sure the power settings are not limiting your GPU performance. In the Control Panel's Power Options, set it to High Performance.

You can send us feedback on what you have checked, thank you very much!

If our reply is helpful, please mark it as such. This will help other users who are experiencing the same problem as you! Thank you very much for your contribution to the community!

I actually found the issue last night. It was a problem that was solved by installing CRU.

I once downloaded CRU for gaming purpose and deleted it right away but it still messed up my settings after several days.

Thanks for your answer tho :)
