Windows 11 not clearing recent files

I have a bunch of files showing in the file explorer recent list going back several months, many which are indicating they are housed on SharePoint or on one of two OneDrive accounts, only one of which I synch with.

However, when I go into the file explorer and select all the one's to be removed, then use the "remove from recent" option, they aren't removed from the list! I've even tried clearing the file explorer history and that doesn't seem to work, either. I'm kind of at my wits end with this as I've not be able to find any other potential solutions online than these two. Short of disabling "show recently used files" (which I'd rather not do), I don't know what else to do.

Update: When I try to remove individual items, I get a "Parameter is incorrect" error.

Hi, sharing what works for me.

    Press Windows + E

On the top bar click over 3 dots...

click over select all . Make shure that all selected are sharepoint or onedrive files only

After select all sharepoint and onedrive recent files, click again on 3 dots

go to options, in the privacy box, uncheck show files used recently. Click on Apply.

    and Done.

    hope that works for you

This is my personal computer using my personal Microsoft OneDrive, that I sometimes use to access work-related documents (rarely), and it's using my personal license to Windows 11 and my personal subscription to Microsoft 365. Why I received notice to my work email, I've no idea, since I signed in on my personal hotmail account to post my question... something is screwed up here.

    Colin -

Is there a work account still active in Windows Settings > Accounts > Access Work & School? If so right click to Disconnect? As long as it's active then it will apply the company's group policy to your personal PC just as if it's a company PC.

If that doesn't fix it then continue to Go over Windows 11 with this Performance Checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and to find and fix problems:

Let me know if you have any questions or I can help performing any of the above steps. If you'll post back detailed results it will help me determine what else needs to be tried.

Hello Colin I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

If this is a server issue please ask your system administrator or at our sister forums for IT Professionals, Q&A forums here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/answers/index.... as Microsoft Community is strictly an end-consumer forum.

Solutions we give here will conflict with the organization''s Group Policy which we do not use in consumer forums at all.

There are also equally good (and sometimes busier) 3rd party IT Pro forums here:

    https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/

    https://www.spiceworks.com/

If this is a consumer Windows then Go over Windows 11 with this Performance Checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and to find and fix problems:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

    Do a full disk check:

    https://allthings.how/how-to-run-chkdsk-in-wind...

    I hope it helps.
