Why do I keep getting the "Intel Corporation - Display - 31.0.101.4502" driver update on Windows Update?

I always have the latest Intel Display driver version for my PC (downloaded using Intel's dedicated driver update tool) but Windows keeps bringing up an older version via Windows Update for some reason! And no, I do not select the "Perform a Clean Installation" option when installing newer driver updates using Intel's tool.

I asked a similar question earlier but got no response from Windows or Microsoft and it's really frustrating having to deal with this. Please help

Hi, good day! I'm John Dev a Windows user like you and I'll be happy to assist you today. I know this has been difficult for you, Rest assured, I'm going to do my best to help you.

Note: It is always recommended to download and install drivers from the manufacturer's Support page. If you're not experiencing any hardware issues, there's no need to install this driver update.

Please try using the “Show or Hide Updates” troubleshooter to hide the driver update. Window Update won’t install hidden drivers or updates. Run the troubleshooter then please try hiding the Intel Corporation - Display - 31.0.101.4502 driver update that will show in the list. You may try restarting your pc if it helps.

Open the cmd prompt application Copy the below line and paste and press enter

    reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate /t REG_DWORD /d 1

downloading all drivers will be stopped from Windows updates.

    reverting

    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate

    I have a Surface Laptop 4

    Device information:

    • Surface model: Surface Laptop 4 Model 1978:1979 i7
    • App version: 61.24050.134.0
    • BIOS Version/Date: Microsoft Corporation 24.101.143 04/11/2024
    • Touch driver: 7.0.100.139
    • Wi-Fi driver: 23.50.0.6
    • Edition: Windows 11 Home
    • OS build: 22631.3737
    • Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1185G7 @ 3.00GHz
    • Installed RAM: 32 GB
    • Storage size: 865 GB free of 952 GB
    • GPU: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics
    • Screen resolution: 3840 x 1080

I am using a Samsung Odessey 49" monitor that requires when connected to my docking station screen resolution 3840 x 1080, but every time I install the latest Intel Iris Xe Graphics Windows Update installs whatever the latest Intel Corporation - Display driver which removes the resolution 3840 x 1080 option from my display settings forcing me to reinstall the Iris Ex Graphics driver over and over to get back to the resolution I need.

Is there a way to prevent windows update from installing this other display driver to avoid this from continuing to happen?? The download link in your reply does not work.
