How to connect external display to the dedicated GPU instead of integrated GPU in laptop

My laptop is asus tuf A15 using ryzen 7 4800h and Nvdia 3050. It seems that if i connect my external display to the only hdmi available in the laptop it will connect to the integrated GPU and therefore the settings will be in the amd software only and wouldn't show in the nvdia control panel. This prevented me from using g-sync and other settings that nvdia control panel has to offer. I still don't know if the problem is my laptop or something to do with the drivers.

Hello! My name is Mostafa, and I will try my best to assist you with this so that you find a satisfactory solution.

I’m sorry that you are experiencing this issue. When you connect an external monitor to your laptop during a heavy task, it should automatically switch.

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Right-click on the desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel" from the menu.
    2. In the NVIDIA Control Panel, click on "Configure Surround, PhysX."
    3. Under the "PhysX Settings" tab, select your external display from the drop-down menu under "Display."
    4. In the same window, under "PhysX Configuration," select "Auto-select (recommended)."
    5. Click "Apply" to save your changes and close the NVIDIA Control Panel.
    6. Restart your laptop to apply the changes.

Ensure you have updated your GPU to the latest version and your Monitor support G-sync.

You can disable integrated GPU by going to Device Manager.

I hope the above steps helped you. In case of additional questions, reach out back to me, and I will be happy to help and try my best to resolve your issue. Thank you.

    Best,

    Mostafa

OK, so I've searched everywhere for this. I have the integrated Intel 4600 and the nVidia GTX 860. Normally I see both video cards in the NVidia control panel and I can move the monitors between the graphics cards to "connect" a monitor to a graphics card. I'm not getting that. THis is a new load of windows on the machine that has been working fine for years.

    I have:

    • Downloaded and installed the GeForce Experience and the Control Panel
    • Used GeForce Experience to install the newest drivers
    • When I go to Display settings, I see that the internal and external monitors are connected to the Intel Chip.
    • I open up Control panel and all I get is 3D Settings. No Display settings.
    • I have verified that the two services Nvidia Display Container LS and Nvidia LocalSystem Container are both set to automatic and are running.

    Initially I get this:

But I can't move the monitors to the Nvidia card.

I took the suggestion of disabling the intel chip and I got hte items below. The Monitor shows on on a Microsoft Basic Display. and the Nvidia control panel has no Intel adapter and no monitors.

    This is very frustrating. Help???

Hey Mostafa it sort of worked but it only showed Adjust video image settings and the only thing i could change is RTX video enhancement.![Image](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/3e683095-81c4-4fd8-8216-7a364761de49?platform=QnA"https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/12cd8c6e-88ed-47f5-a63c-772296d0d310?platform=QnA" rel="ugc nofollow">Image

And i also want to ask if the problem could be is that im using studio driver instead of game ready driver for my Nvidia or if the problem is that i have an amd integrated graphics card
And i also tried disabling my integrated graphics card but it just made the Adjust video image settings dissapear and i was left with this

Do you have a USB-C port in the side of your laptop? If so it is possible that your USB-C port is in fact "USB-C to Display Port".
I have the 2021 ASUS TUF A15 + Ryzen7 5800h + RTX3070 and I solved the GPU issue by purchasing a USB-C to DP cable and connecting my external display via that port. The USB-C to DP port is the only way for an external display to connect to the dedicated GPU instead of the onboard.
