Device Installation Settings

A quick question for you guys. Will it harm my computer if I turn off "Do you want to automatically download manufacturers apps and customs icons available for your devices" in Device Installation Settings. I mean we get driver updates by optional updates now so will I still get these? Will turning this off cause problems with getting updates from Microsoft like cumulative updates or Patch Tuesday updates or App updates from the MS Store? I would greatly appreciate your input into this.

Respectfully

Greetings, Don! My name is Arif, and I will assist you today.

If you turn off the option"Do you want to automatically download manufacturers apps and customs icons available for your devices" option in Device Installation Settings won't harm your computer. This setting is specifically for downloading and installing manufacturer-specific apps and custom icons for your devices. If you disable it, you won't receive these apps and icons, but it won't impact driver updates. Windows Update will still provide driver updates even with this option turned off.

It's important to note that turning off this option won't interfere with updates from Microsoft, such as cumulative updates, Patch Tuesday updates, or app updates from the Microsoft Store. These updates are delivered through Windows Update, which is separate from Device Installation Settings.

    Warm Regards,

    Arif
