I think I read it, according to an Apple's support document, plugging in the phone is required. You can read it here: https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/itunes/it....
I have windows 11 and iTunes. I cannot get any of my Apple devices to sync to iTunes over WiFi. Spent an hour on the phone with Apple support and they believe it’s a windows issue. Any workarounds?
I have tried all of the troubleshooting from Apple.

2024-05-16T20:55:16+00:00 Having similar issue. Itunes does not detect any devices when plugged in. Support was no help. I figured out it was Apple Music app that was creating some sort of conflict. I uninstalled both and reinstalled itunes and everything worked. Just figured this out today. Trying to notify Microsoft of the issue now

2023-12-29T19:25:35+00:00 Problem seems to be ethernet vs WiFi conflict in iTunes on Windows 11. With iPhone connected to laptop via USB port & Windows 11 laptop connected to LAN via WiFi, iTunes would NOT synch Outlook with iPhone (with iTunes toggled to synch over WiFi or not.) Connected laptop to LAN via ethernet, turned off WiFi synching in iTunes & PRESTO! Outlook & iPhone synched.

2023-12-28T06:48:02+00:00 Hey Rachel,
My name is Ravi, and I am an independent advisor. I am happy to help you. :)
I understand you're facing an issue while syncing an Apple device to your computer.
1). Could you tell if you get an error message when you click on the "Sync Now" button from iTunes?
2). After connecting an Apple device, does it show up in iTunes?
Thanks,
Ravi
