In Stream, use the option to edit your video in Clipchamp. Even if you don't change anything, Clipchamp lets you export as .mp4.

I have used Record Screen in Stream to create several videos. Some are mp4 format and some are webm. Unfortunately, I cannot edit the webm files because that format is not supported by Photo or Movie Maker, our available editing apps. I have two questions:
- Why is there a difference in file type when I am creating them in the same way (as far as I know)?
- How can I convert and/or edit the webm type videos?

Anonymouse 6 Reputation points2021-07-22T03:10:56.883+00:00 I believe your Stream video will download as a .webm file type only when the Stream video hasn't finished 'rendering' or processing on page. Once this process has been completed, the video will download as an .mp4 format.

Jay Ellis 6 Reputation points2022-08-15T18:06:51.9+00:00 @Anonymouse I don't know about your reply if it is rendering or processing, but I noticed that for every video that I make any edit (trim, add a thumbnail, or rename) Stream then switches over to making it able to download as an MP4. Similar to the comment by @Jerry Xu Is that what the deal is? Make any edit to get it to download as an MP4. That is a dumb microsoft glitch. Most everybody I know wants it in the more compatable MP4 format.

Bingham, Malie (US) 15 Reputation points2023-07-17T18:45:02.71+00:00 I am running into the same issue. I am not sure how you can tell if the video is done processing but it is still downloading as webm. I also tried editing the thumbnail and that does not appear to be changing anything either.

And for your question 2, have a try to trim a part of that video like 2 seconds within microsoft stream and then try to download it again. This time it downloads in mp4 format. A simple rename of the file extension works.
You first need to be able to see the file extension by doing this.
Click the Start menu. ...
Type "folder options" (without the quotes). ...
A dialog box with the title "Folder Options" will appear. ...
Click to uncheck the box for "Hide extensions for known file types".
Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the dialog box.
Now to just right click on the file and select rename.Change the .webm to .wmv or .mp4, whatever.

I renamed my Stream on SharePoint web recording from .webm to .mp4, uploaded to a different video streaming platform and it worked. Makes me wonder why it just doesn't save the file as .mp4 to begin with...
