i dont know how to update my minecraft. it wont let me play realms because i have an outdated client

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.
Open the Minecraft Launcher go to the installation tab uninstall the game close the microsoft store and go to the library and click "get updates".
Restart your computer and install Beedrock minecraft and test.
If it is a Java version, you will follow the same procedure but click on new installation and select the latest version.
