Technically either in sleep mode or with Lid Closed the system should be shut without any background activity but i have been facing this issue where even if i put the system to sleep mode or close the lid, the system still keeps running. the battery drains a lot and this is also a security concern

I'm sick of windows to be honest. Battery management has been just horrendous the past couple of years. New 2.5K laptops (Surface Laptop), and still the battery just gets eaten alive while in use but even worse in Sleep mode, the battery CONTINUES to be eaten alive! :(

I think the only real option unfortunately is to go over to the dark side and go Mac. Apparently you can run Windows on it and it's just as good as on a PC. But the Macs battery management is just SO SO SOOO far ahead of Windows.

I use laptops the whole time for work, so battery power is just too important. I've been caught out too much by opening a sleeping laptop to find it down to 10%, (after entering sleep at about 80%+)

Also on my version of Windows 11 there is NO hibernate option.. All I can do is Sleep and Shut down.

I know Windows 11 disables Hibernate by default, but I can't seem to get it enabled.

Windows really is sucking these days. :(

Look at this crazy drain. My laptop was just sleeping, no apps were running. this drain is crazy. And I've updated to the latest windows 11 version.

I atleast hoped it'll get fixed, but it's terrible.

Tell me if you need some logs or anything.
I will send you. this bug is annoying.

yea, in mid 2023 suddenly my lap is draining *a lot* really a lot of battery on sleep....
the same happens to my friend's HP laptop, mine is acer.

before, at max around 8% would drain for 8ish Hours sleep
now, it's more than 30% drain

this is too much, I haven't updated my amd drivers, or gpu drivers. the only thing that happend is windows update.

8 hour 40 mins in Linux (Arch), just 5% drain.

WINDOWS HAS REALLY BECOME WORST THESE DAYS...

WHAT, YOU GUYS WANT ME TO CHANGE BATTERY / BUY NEW LAPTOP THINKING "OHHH MY LAPTOP HAS DAMAGED, IT'S NOT RUNNING WINDOWS PROPERLY",
    very nice

    Here's how:

    • Press the Windows key and search "closing the lid"
    • Press enter, or click "Change what closing the lid does"
    • Change the settings under "When I close the lid:" so they both say "Hibernate" instead of "Sleep"

    👍

Given the other comments I'm not sure if that will completely prevent battery drain though. You can get in the habit of shutting the system off anytime you're done with whatever you're doing, or just be prepared to charge it whenever you need to use it.
