Throttled download speeds for steam/gog.

I recently bought a new pc running windows 11 (specs below).

I'm facing throttled download speeds for certain applications and I can't figure out why.

Speedtest is giving me 150Mbps down (max from my provider).

This speed seems to also be active when downloading windows/driver updates.

When downloading anything from steam/gog (maybe other things, haven't tested a lot), the download speeds seems to be limited to 10Mbps (in app + performance tab in task manager).

Things I have checked:

  • I never had this issue with my previous pc using the same cable/switch/router.
  • I have switched cables, connected to the router itself.
  • I have checked the settings in steam/gog, no throttling active there.
  • I have reïnstalled windows multiple times.
  • I have reïnstalled gog/steam multiple times.
  • I have tried a few network adapter drivers.

Drivers:

Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Family Controller 1125.16.1121.2023

Specs:

AMD RYZEN 7 7800 X3D PROCESSOR

THERMALTAKE TOUGHPOWER GF A3 750 WATT 80 GOLD

ASUS TUF GAMING B650-PLUS-WIFI MOTHERBOARD

G SKILL DDR5 FLARE X F5 6000 Mhz 2 x16GB Ram

ASUS RADEON RX7900 XT -20GB1

WD BLACK SN850X 2TB M.2 SSD

SCYTHE FUMA 3 COOLER

    Hello,

I have the exact same issue, same CPU and same motherboard brand. I don't know what to do, I tried different cables, different router ports, nothing change.

Windows automatically updates, sometimes automatically, drivers.

When you first solved it, did you use the "old version of the driver" for the Realtek?

Check to see if the Realtek driver has been updated, and try again with the version that solved the problem the first time.

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

Unfortunately, I'm back to square one. After a few reboots and a windows update (not sure what triggered it) I'm having the same issue again.

    Hello

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Regarding the limited download speed of steam/gog on your computer.

Did you solve it by using an "older" version of the driver?

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Drivers:

Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Family Controller 1125.16.1121.2023

For people with the same/similar issues, I found a fix.

The most recent driver was a trap, I reverted to this version: 1125.9.614.2022

The "faulty" driver can be found when pressing "Update Driver" in Device Manager, or downloading the latest version from the realtek website.

I was able to find this "old" driver from the asus website.

Having the issue again after windows update/reboots (not sure what triggered it).
