Win10 Jan 2024 update messes Touchpad/mouse cruiser

Hello all

machine: dell xps i7 11-gen, win10 pro 64bit. RAM 32Gb

After the latest update of windows 10 (9 January 2024) my precision touchpad started to play up. the mouse cruiser freezes randomly specially if it hovers over something that would produce a pop-up help text regardless the program I am using (MS Edge, windows explorer, Office, HyperV... etc)

The only current way to de-freeze the cruise is the invoke ALT+Tab to release the cruiser and get it back moving.

Is this something that was reported before?

If not i think i need to remove that latest windows update.

regards

    Thanks for your elaborate response.

I restored the system to a previous restore-point before the catastrophic update.

I deleted all the January 2024 updates that were added then.

I blocked ALL windows updates, ALL apps updates, ALL drivers updates, using group policies as if I'm offline.

Now my laptop functions perfectly like it did prior to that horrible lazily half-baked update.

Thanks for Microsoft Update team and their bizarre careless let's-treat-them-like-guinea-pigs attitude towards customers. I have now to choose a useable functional vulnerable machine over a "supposedly-secure" useless dysfunctional one! way to go Microsoft update team!

Windows 10 update in January 2024 causes hardware issues in Dell XPS laptops. all the updates, security and otherwise.

The sound and microphone start playing up, sometimes the audio is totally non-functional and i had to disable/enable the sound from "device manager". the Microphone array sometimes is not recognisable by the system.

The touchpad plays up BIG TIME its not usable any more. Jittery jumpy, the gestures are all mixed up, and eventually stops working then, and here is the kicker. ghost gestures start as if the laptop is being controlled remotely. Of course it's not. there is no virus. the laptop is not hacked. it's a build up of messed up commands that the system decides to fire randomly after the touchpad totally freezes. Double restart can solve the problem.

I managed now to Re-install all of the trashy January updates that are still necessary including the optional one, The first four are the main culprit:

    • system KB5034466
    • system KB5034122
    • system KB5034203
    • security KB5034441
    • Service stack 10.0.19041.3989
    • cumulative .Net KB5034582
    • cumulative .Net KB5034275
    • .Net security 6.0.26 KB5033733

    then did the following:

full system file check - no corrupt files.

full Dell hardware diagnostic check (restart + F12) - nothing faulty apparently.

After couple of restarts it seems to be working well now. I'm still on the lookout for further hardware dysfunction in particular the audio/microphone and touchpad. And for all I know other hardware too...

Nice job Microsoft update team.. In case you are still wondering why windows market share is sliding below 60% now and going lower.. Thanks to your "amazing work"

Update: with the crappy updates mentioned above, the problem continues. Now, CAD programmes (autocad, revit, etc) totally shuts down the touchpad. Skype randomly on launch screws microphone recognition and even sound.
