How to install Windows 11 in Virtualbox?

Anonymous

I have tried enabling uefi and secure boot but it stops at the setup screen and says "This PC cannot run Windows 11".

I even tried using DISM but I found out that the install file is install.esd.

Can anyone help me to install Windows 11 in Virtualbox?

Specs of my Host PC:

HP DA2009TU Essential Laptop

Core i3 1035g1

8gb ram

1TB SSD Storage

(I know what you guys are thinking, it is not a good machine for virtual machines.)

Another try from me. If this doesn't work, I'll give up.

I haven't used VirtualBox recently, but I know that you have choices with a VM's hardware configuration. Can you change your VM's hardware so that it meets Windows 11 requirements?

I was actually surprised that I was able to install Windows 11 into Hyper-V on my 13-year old computer, which thinks TPM stands for tire pressure monitor. Clearly, the critical hardware was virtualized. Perhaps Hyper-V is more generous with hardware virtualization than VirtualBox?

My hunch was sort-of right, as a read of the VirtualBox user forum shows: VirtualBox did not completely support Windows 11 at first. I'm quoting from TechRadar Pro:

Oracle VirtualBox users can now finally use Windows 11 after the company addressed a known issue that caused virtual machine failures whenever Hyper-V [which you don't have] or the Windows Hypervisor [which you do] were installed.

The failures were the reason Microsoft set up safeguards for Windows 11, essentially preventing the users from upgrading. Since Oracle fixed these issues, Microsoft announced it has now removed the safeguards.

"Oracle has resolved this issue in VirtualBox 6.1.28 and later,” Microsoft said. “To remove the safeguard hold on your device, you will need to update to VirtualBox 6.1.28 or later."

Would you be interested in trying Hyper-V?

I'm suggesting this because I installed Windows 11 Pro in Hyper-V running on my 13-year old Dell desktop and it installed and ran for months without any problem.

Some people told me that i could use dism to install windows 11 but it gives error 2 (the system could not find the file specified.) when i used the command:

    dism /apply-image /imagefile=install.wim/ index=6 /applydir=C:\

The host OS is also Windows 11.

The Host PC is just 10 months old so obviously it has UEFI and TPM 2.0.

I am not using VMvare and I am using VM VirtualBox (formerly known as Sun VirtualBox)

What is the host operating system.

Whether UEFI, Secure boot is supported in the Virtual Machine depends on the hardware settings. Do you have those available in the laptop bios?
