Super Confused about UPnP on Windows

I understand what UPnP is and how it's convenient for gaming, but also serves as a security risk

my confusion comes from the fact that there are options to enable and disable UPnP in both Windows settings AND my router's settings

my router has UPnP IGD disabled, and I've also turned Network Discovery off in the Control Panel of my devices. since Network Discovery is just UPnP, does it actually matter if I enable it, if UPnP is disabled in my router settings?

what happens if I enable Network Discovery but keep UPnP disabled in the router settings? and vice versa, what happens if I enable UPnP in my router but leave Network Discovery disabled in Control Panel?

am I able to leave UPnP IGD disabled in the router settings, open Control Panel to enable Network Discovery/UPnP whenever I need it, and then disable it again when I'm done? or would I need to enable UPnP in the router AND the Control Panel for the feature to actually work?

a little bonus question is; if UPnP is disabled across the board, would my NAT type be NAT 2? or are these unrelated

I just can't find an easy way to check, not through ipconfig and not through router settings, and I don't necessarily want to download Xbox apps to look

    Hello ,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

Unfortunately, this forum is mainly for families and individuals for basic technical support of the system or software, since the question you are asking involves advanced features, which has exceeded the scope of support of our forum, it is more suitable for publishing on Microsoft Learn - Windows 10 Network(microsoft.com), you can click on "Ask a question", there are experts who can provide more professional solutions in that place.

Here is a link to the forum where you can raise specific scenarios and share your idea to help solve the problem.
