Wired earphones not working on Dell laptop (Windows 11)

I recently purchased wired earphones with a 3.5mm jack and am experiencing issues connecting them to my laptop. The laptop fails to recognize the earphones, and the microphone on the wired earphones is not functioning.

In the sound settings on the Control Panel, it indicates in the Playback Tab that the "Headphones Realtek (R) Audio" are not plugged in, even though the wired earphones are currently connected to my laptop. I also don't understand why it states in the device status that "This device is working properly" even though it's not.

I looked online to figure out whether it's an audio problem, a driver issue, or an earphone problem. However, none of these scenarios seem to match, as the earphones work perfectly when connected to another laptop or phone, with both sound and microphone functioning as expected. Despite suspecting a driver problem, my system indicates that the drivers are up to date.

Currently, the laptop's operating system is Windows 11 Pro, and it is a Dell Vostro 3500. I have been grappling with this problem for more than a year and cannot seem to find a solution. I even bought new earphones, assuming that perhaps my previous ones were broken.

Any suggestions or thoughts about this would be really helpful. Thanks.

    Hello,

I have already checked Dell's Support Assist app. Although there are some minor updates for drivers and downloads, there were still no changes after running some tests on the app itself. After that, I tried searching for "Realtek console" and "Dell Audio" on my pc; however, it doesn't show anything. Now, I'm quite confused about how to proceed with this.

    Hi ,

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

Okay, the headphone you bought has the correct input jack so you need the Wavemax selection system.

First download DDU to delete the audio driver from the link below:

    https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-...

Second, open the on command (admin) prompt: sfc /scannow , wait for the process to finish and restart the computer.

Third Download the drivers from the links below and install one driver at a time.

    https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER08153228M/1/Cirrus-Lo...

Fourth, restart the computer and connect the headphone and see a prompt will appear to select the type of sound select Headphone.

    Hi Palcouk,

I'm not sure if I understood your reply. Could you please elaborate more on the last two sentences?

What does "Dell support specific to your tag# then set Bios to defaults and Pwr top balanced" mean? Also, could you clarify the one where you mentioned, "The sound icon to the rt of the task bar check input/ouptput options"?

    Thank you.

    Hi Ivan,

I have finished downloading the first two links, which are the Realtek and Cirrus. However, when I tried downloading the third link, which is the Waves Maxx Audio Pro Application, it indicated that it can't run on my PC. The message suggests finding a compatible version from the software publisher.

Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed?

    Thanks.

By default, win 11 update auto updates only critical win updates, and nothing else unless you have made the mistake of selecting the "Get latest updates" option, and if you have turn it off.

You obtain both Bios & Drivers updates from the PC Maker, there should be a shortcut on your system to that makers update utility, and no other source.

In your case Dell support specific to your tag# then set Bios to defaults and Pwr top balanced

The sound icon to the rt of the task bar check input/ouptput options
