Laptop w/3050RTX & Windows 11 has trouble when connected to Samsung Odyssey G70B

Good evening,

I'm currently running into an issue when attempting to use my external monitor with my laptop via HDMI. In the past I have successfully used HDMI to connect with TV's at 1080p and played games that have used the GPU as well as simple browsing that may or may not just use the embedded Intel Graphics. My external monitor is 4k 144hz (120 with HDMI) and it seems that whenever I plug it in I get no picture on it. On the monitor it suggests that it is aware that it is connected to a PC but it requests that I turn the PC on. Likewise in Windows it shows the monitor but says its inactive.

So far what I've done:

  • Tried different cables that are all rated for the resolution and framerate
  • Checked for updates on PC, NVIDIA, and the monitor itself. No updates available
  • Tried to explore NVIDIA Control Center but I don't seem to have any relevant options available
  • Attempted to disable and re-enable the Intel Graphics to force the system to use the 3050
  • Enabled and disabled Game Mode on the monitor
  • Booted into BIOS menu, no options related to GPU
  • Restarted PC and monitor multiple times, booting with monitor plugged in, without, etc...
  • Changing refresh rates

Some of the symptoms I've seen during my troubleshooting process are:

  1. When connecting the display it causes my PC to freeze up and stutter, sometimes causing the screen to go black although often times causing the mouse to disappear and become unresponsive. While this is happening the sound of a device connecting and disconnecting plays in a stuttered way.
  2. When selecting how to use the displays (show on 1, show on 2, duplicate, extend) any option I choose reverts back to "display on 1"
  3. It seems that throughout this there has been 0 activity from the 3050, even when the Intel Graphics are disabled

I'm at a loss here, I'm usually pretty good at poking around until I find what I'm looking for but I haven't seen any options whatsoever that seem to have any effect on this situation.

PC: Acer Nitro AN517-54

Monitor model number: LS28BG702ENXGO

NVIDIA GPU: RTX 3050 Laptop GPU

CPU: Intel Core i5 11400H

Setting: Laptop connected to power, full battery, connected via ethernet, HDMI cables are 4k compatible and have been used to same expectations with other devices, no other devices plugged in

Edit: I forgot to add that I have successfully used this computer with a different 4k monitor. It was an Asus 4k 60hz monitor with no trouble.

I followed your instruction to delete the folders listed and rebooted my computer. It unfortunately had no effect and it is doing the same thing it was doing before. Here are my specifications as requested:

    Windows Specifications:

Edition Windows 11 Home Insider Preview
    Version 22H2
    Installed on ‎2024-‎01-‎08
    OS build 23612.1000
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.23612.1000.0

    Hello ,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

Firstly, could you let me know the specific system version (OS Build)? You can check it by pressing Win + X > System > Windows specifications*, click “Copy” and paste it in your next reply*.

If you have ever connected multiple display devices, I suggest you follow the steps below to clear your connection history:

    1. Open the Registry Editor by pressing WIN + R and typing "regedit". Then navigate to
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers

and locate the following three folders: Configuration, Connectivity, and ScaleFactors. You can directly delete these three folders.
    2. Afterward, reboot to reconnect your external display by unplugging and plugging it back in, and check the results. Disclaimer*: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or workgroups is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems,* however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows (microsoft.com) to view the article.

The extended display then requires display adapter support, make sure your GPU and CPU graphics processor drivers are updated to the latest, you may go to the official website of your device manufacturer to download the corresponding model driver and install it manually. After the installation is completed, reboot and see if the device works properly.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,
