Decimal separator changes after Update to Windows 11

I had a similar issue and it was driving me crazy. So here's what I did and my solutions:

We recently updated from Win10 to Win11, since than changing the numpad separator under Clock and Region >> Change data, time, or number formats >> Additional Settings >> Decimal symbol doesn't affect anything.

So I started switching between the German and English keyboard layout by having both installed and pressing Win+Space. Admittedly useful, but many of my shortcuts are on German special characters, so constant switching got annoying fast... Plus I've got older co-workers and I can't ask them to do the same.

Hence why I tried than downloading the official Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator App (MSKLC) Version 1.4, and even though the only possible change to the numpad is the separator (lame, as a side not) but again, no effect whatsoever. The reason in this case however was a mistake from my side. Language settings!

SIDE² NOTE: You see, I've got good German and Italian folks using this workstation and other machines in the office, and while not everyone knows both German and Italian, everyone here knows English. So that's the standard language of every system here. This is also the standard language the app recognizes, but not the one I had to change. LOL!

SOLUTION:

1. Download and install MSKLC) Version 1.4
2. In the option-bar go to "Project >> Properties... >> Language"
3. Change the language to the actual keyboard layout (it doesn't change the UI language)
4. Select dot or comma in the "Decimal Separator (numeric Keyboard)" section.
5. Save your settings.

Such a small detail, such a huge difference. Hope this can help someone else!

This was really helpful thank you. What I wanted to achieve is as follows. When I click on the keyboard shortcut ctrl+shft+1 to apply the standard number format, the end result should be 59.1 instead of 59.13 (which currently is the case).

I have tried to change the default number format by going to "Time & Language > Language & Region > Administrative Language Settings > Formats tab > Additional Settings > Numbers tab > No of digits after decimal" and changing the value to 1.

The expectation is that when i apply the standard number format using the above mentioned keyboard shortcut there should only be one digit after the decimal but there are still 2 digits as before.

It will save me a lot of time if you can tell me what i am doing wrong here (or not doing correctly)

I've tried install an update, but the decimal symbol is kept set to comma after a restart, maybe we can try a system repair and see if there is any file/setting corruption:

You can try the following commands to try to fix it. Please run Command Prompt as an administrator ("Win" logo key + "Q", enter "cmd", select "Run as administrator"), and enter the following commands one by one:

sfc /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
