Error updating / manually installing Windows updates.

I have an inactive Windows 11 right now, as per the documentation I should still be able to install updates but, whenever I try to install the (KB5034123) or (KB4023057) updates for 22H2 x64 based windows 11 system it keeps saying retry and doesn't install the updates and gives download error 0x8007007e.

So, I tried to manually download the updates from microsoft catalog and then tried to install them but now it says " The updates don't match with my system specs "( I don't exactly remember the error message but the context of it was that the update wasn't meant for my system even though I downloaded the same packages for 22H2 x64 systems).

I have also tried to check for corrupted files in my device by using the system file checker but it gives error code 126 : "Module could not be found".

PS : I had run the microsoft safety scanner and it too got stuck at around 80-90% . Once I got the warning from MS defender that a trojan has been found but I had taken care of it and had it removed. As per to error code 0x8007007e , problems may be arising due to 3rd party antivirus (which I don't have), software conflict, corrupt registry, and corrupted system files. But since system file checker is giving error I can't detect corrupted files . Please provide me a solution (if any) other than reinstalling Windows or is reinstalling Windows the only option I am left with?

  • Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro of Sysnative forums) and save this to your Desktop.
  • Download the file, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  • On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  • Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.  [See illustration image]
  • SFCFix will now process the script.
  • Upload the output file SFCFix.txt to your OneDrive.
  • **Restart** Windows.

That should do the trick. Attempt to install updates now.

Please upload your CBS logs to OneDrive and share the link here.

    • c:\windows\logs\cbs\                   <= Zip and upload all files in this folder.

    Hi Digvijay,

    I am Jaspreet Singh.

Please try an in place upgrade using the guide here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

An inplace upgrade will use a fresh copy of updated windows and compare it with the files on your system and will replace any files that are missing/corrupted or causing issues. This does not delete your user data and is the way forward is the other methods to correct system files fail.
