My laptop screen goes black every time i try to login

Hi,

  • My laptop will show the lock screen
  • But, instead of taking me to enter my PIN when i click enter
  • It instead takes me to a black screen, but I can move the cursor
  • Then, after a while (30 seconds?), it will return to the lock screen

I have no clue what to do - I did try the Win + Ctrl + Shift + B combination as well as the Ctrl + Alt + Delete combination but no response occurs if i do it once or hold it, and if i repeat it multiple times the screen goes to black again.

I have checked out some methods to fix it but its virtually impossible for me to try them because i can't even get past the lock screen.

Thank you, any tips would be appreciated :)

    Hi T,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Please open the Windows Recovery environment using the steps below:

Press and hold Shift+click the restart button on the lock screen to open recovery options. Click Advanced options>Troubleshoot.

If you cannot reach the lock screen or start your computer, restart your PC two times when the boot screen is shown. On the third time, windows should open Windows Recovery automatically.

From Change Startup Behaviour > Press 3 for Safe Mode.

I thought the same thing but it turned out, I'm not very smart.

I had my brightness turned all the way down so when I turned on my laptop it would completely make my screen black instead of dimming it all the way. 😅

I thought I broke my laptop that I used for school some how. Whoops

Bro this literally saved my life, I was about to have to go into a pc repair shop and pay £50 just for them to look at it not including the cost for them to fix it. This was very helpful for me although it may not work for all.
