Windows 11 can’t see new Internal HDD

I have installed windows 11 on my Dell Precision 3630. After doing this I installed new internal hdd and tried to restart PC. Unfortunately with new HDD connected, windows would not boot. I disconnected and restarted and all booted fine. Reinstalled internal HDD whilst PC on and can hear HDD starting up but windows does not see it.

I have tried different SATA ports and cables. Also tried another HDD which I know works.

My OS is installed on a SSD if that makes any difference.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi! Good day , Jerry here, an independent advisor. Here to help you.

Have you already checked disk management and see if you can detect the newly installed HDD? If not please try this steps below.

    1. Click on the magnifier icon on the taskbar and type “computer management” “compmgmt.msc”, or “compmgmt”. Then, click on the best match.
    2. Under "Storage" click on "Disk Management".

From there you should be able to see all the detect disk. Now if this is a brand new HDD or unformatted HDD you should see a disk there that is unallocated. If disk is not showing there then you can try to check if HDD is detected thru BIOS.

If you is that the disk is unallocated then you can right click on it and choose "New Simple Volume". Follow the wizard and you should see now the drive on your file explorer.

    Greetings
I have a very similar issue.
In this case I have win 11 home, OS installed to Drive C.

After installing the OS, I installed two additional SATA internal drives. One a WD Blue 2tb HDD and PNY 2tb SSD.
    The BIOS sees both.
And I have installed the motherboards recommended and most current SATA drivers.
Windows does not see the new drives in the Disc & Volume or Storage pool

The drives were confirmed good via an external USB HDD dock attached to a different win10 PC.

    I can enter BIOS.

    Under system configuration - drives

The new HDD is not visible. I have now tried this with my other HDD and it shows in BIOS.

Would that indicate HDD is faulty??

Mostly to enter bios you just need to restart your computer then press repeatedly the DEL key or F2 key that will be depending on your motherboard or laptop manufacturer on how they have set it up from there you should be able to see all the all the storage devices that are currently connected.

If you are having difficulties accessing BIOS, please provide the brand and model of the laptop or motherboard (if you are using a desktop computer)

    Hi thanks for the response.

The new drive does not show in disk management at all. Neither does the other drive which I know is formatted correctly.

Could you explain how I check through BIOS? As the PC will not boot with HDD connected.

    Thanks
