I want to do this without the encryption method - that was too hard. Is there another way? Thanks!

Oh, I have Win 11 Pro. Are you saying BitLocker comes with it?

That's correct. I don't have Pro, but from what I have read, BitLocker is designed to lock disks, not individual folders, so you will have to create a virtual disk in order to be able to lock an individual folder with BitLocker. Details Here:

Yes, it's an annoyingly long set of steps for something that should be as simple as right-click, lock, enter a password. But, assuming you just have one folder to lock, it might be acceptable.

Also, think about what you're locking. If it's folder that has gigabytes of videos, that will take a long time to encrypt. I would look at one of the folder lock programs that do not do any encryption in that case. But if it's a folder of sensitive Office documents, then encryption is ideal.

FYI, that link goes to Guru99, a review site. The top recommendations on that page contain affiliate links, but you would not know it unless you know how to check the URL for the hyperlinked text. That's too much to ask for the average consumer, which is why federal law requires review sites to provide a clear and conspicuous disclosure re: affiliate links, which Guru99 does not do.

Good point and that appears to be a common issue with review and tech help sites. And I definitely don't own, or have any association with, Guru99. I will update my earlier message with a warning. Thanks.

Thus, it is important to ask: If a review site does not follow the law, how reliable are their reviews?

"If ... [a] review website ... receives payments ... for affiliate link referrals, it should clearly and conspicuously disclose that it receives such payments." 16 C.F.R. §  255.4(b)(3)

"... 'clear and conspicuous' means that a disclosure is difficult to miss (i.e., easily noticeable) and easily understandable by ordinary consumers." 16 C.F.R. §  255.0(f)

Note: I am not criticizing LesFerch (unless they happen to own Guru99, which I doubt).

Windows does not provide any built-in option to lock a folder other than encrypting with Bitlocker (Windows 11 Pro).

Although encryption is really the only way to completely secure your data, there are some third-party folder and disk locking programs available. I don't have a specific recommendation, but there is an extensive list of such tools at this link (WARNING: be careful of what you click at that site - affiliate links are not clearly indicated). Also note that, if such a program were to go wrong in some way, data could be lost (or at least quite difficult to retrieve).

Also note that you may find a simple "folder lock" batch file in your searches, but all that batch file does is give the folder an unusual name plus hidden and system attributes. It provides no real security at all. I do not recommend using that batch file.

There is no feature in Windows to do it out of the box.

You may open start and search for feedback and open the Feedback Hub app and suggest this feature.

You may also user third-party tools to do it.
