Miracast/Mirroring to TV Stick doesn't work

I want to mirror my Windows 11 (23H2) PC desktop to my Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd gen). The Fire TV stick is connected to a HDMI input of my BenQ 1080p video projector. Mirroring from my Samsung Android tablet to the TV stick works (with the app "Smart View", which also seems to use Miracast), but mirroring from my desktop PC does not.

What I do:

On my Fire TV stick: "Display & Sounds" / "Enable Display Monitoring"

On my Windows PC: Windows + k, then select "<my name>'s Fire TV"

What happens on the TV stick:

  • "Preparing to mirror the display from your device to your Ulrich's Fire TV"
  • 40 seconds later: "Display mirroring is exiting, please wait..."

What I already tried:

  1. update TV stick: Software version is RS8102/1967
  2. update relevant drivers on my PC
  3. factory reset of the Fire TV stick
  4. disable Windows firewall for a couple of minutes

"netsh wlan show driver" tells me that my graphics driver and my Wi-Fi driver both support wireless display.

As mirroring works from my Android tablet, and my internet router isn't involved in the Wi-Fi Direct/Miracast connection, this seems to be a Window problem.

Any help is highly appreciated.

    1. And you may Perform a clean boot (microsoft.com) to see if it is normal, this is a troubleshooting step. In this mode, we can further confirmed whether it is caused by system problems or third-party software or personalized Settings. So please be patient. Disclaimer*: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.* These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step so that it will help you get you back on track.
    2. Try switching WiFi bands, that might solve the problem!

      2. Choose "Network & Internet": In the Settings window, select the "Network & Internet" option.
      3. Go to "Wi-Fi" settings: In the left navigation pane, choose "Wi-Fi."
      4. View available Wi-Fi networks: On the right pane, you will see a list of available Wi-Fi networks. Locate the Wi-Fi network you are currently connected to.
      5. Click on "Advanced network settings": Below the currently connected Wi-Fi network, you'll find a link labeled "Advanced network settings." Click on this link.
      6. Select the frequency band: In the pop-up window, you will find an option like "Preferred band" or similar. Here, you can choose either "2.4GHz" or "5GHz" as the preferred band.
      7. Save changes: After selecting the desired frequency band, remember to click the "Save" or "Apply" button at the bottom of the window to save the changes.

    Hello.

    1. Can you send me a screenshot of your device info? I'll troubleshoot it.
      1. Click on the search bar next to the Start button or press the Win key.
      2. Type "System Information" or "System Info" and press Enter.
    2. Regarding the computer you assembled: are you connected to a Wi-Fi antenna, the WIFI signal is weak if you don't link the antenna.
    3. Running the dxdiag command:
      1. Press Win+R to open the Run window, type dxdiag, and run it to open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
      2. In the tool, choose "Save All Information" to generate the DxDiag.txt text file.
      3. Open the text file and check if the Miracast line content is "Available."
      4. This step is to verify if your system supports Miracast, a technology for screen sharing between different devices.
    4. Running the PowerShell command:
      1. Right-click the Start button, choose Windows PowerShell.
      2. Run the command: Get-NetAdapter | Select Name, NdisVersion.
      3. Check if the NdisVersion for WLAN in the results is greater than or equal to 6.40.
      4. This step is to check the NdisVersion of the wireless network adapter, which may be necessary for features like Miracast projection.

I hope these methods will help you.

    Best Regards

    Hi,

the WIndows version is 23H2 (Build 22631.3007).

The distance between the PC and the TV stick is about 7 feet. Under "Device Health", the TV stick says "Connection Excellent".

The PC is self-built from components bought in 2021. Components that might be relevant here:

    • Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210
    • AMD 5600G CPU with integrated graphics

I've tried removing and restarting the TV stick, my internet router and the PC several times. That didn't change anything.

    Kind Regards,

    Ulrich

    Hello

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Regarding your inability to cast Windows to a TV stick.

Can you tell me what your system version is? System version: Win + R key, and type "winver", press Enter*.*

Can you tell me your specific model and hardware information? I'll check if the support supports casting to Miracast.

Is the distance too far and the signal too weak?

You can remove the device and try reconnecting it again. For details, please refer to:

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards
