Can't transfer Android cellphone photos to PC

Several hundreds of photos on phone (can see them in "Google Photos" App}

Connected phone* to PC via good USB cable

Win 10 opens Photos App

Selecting Moto phone ("External device") brings up a TOTAL of six (6) photos ... WTH???

Opening "Moto G ...", then DCIM / Camera folders in Win Explorer ... results in "...Folder Empty" ... WTH???

Having wasted hours with Motorola [so-called] Support & then Tracfone [so-called] Support, I'm at a stand-still.

Anyone have any actual useful suggestions?

IMO this really is technology badly-managed, if not totally run amok!!!

I have exactly the same problem as this user.

With android 12 phone only (my android 11 does not have this problem), SD card dcim/camera folder shows as empty even though there are thousands of photos in it.

i cannot use a photo app on win 10 to import photos, they don't find any files on external sd card, only internal storage (this is with the 'file transfer enabled' button active).

I cannot use file explorer in win 10 to drag and drop photos as it shows the folder is empty.

i've installed phone link, but i can't see a way of doing a bulk transfer of photos using that, so how the heck to i transfer and backup photos from my phone.

Just to reiterate this problem is limited to android 12, both my wife and i have motorola moto's, her's is 12 mine is 11, mine works hers doesn't.

Hello! I'm Jen, and I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. May I ask if you have MTP enabled in your phone? When you connect your phone to your PC, swipe down from the top of the screen to see the notification menu and you will be given options of what you want to do, whether to transfer files, photo or charge only. Please make sure to choose the transfer photo option and then try checking each folder again to see if the photos appear this time. Let me know how it goes. Thank you.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

    Best Regards!

    Jen :)

    Hi,

Have you tried turning off USB debugging?

Yup. USB set to "File Transfer" aka MTP

Also there's option for "Photos&Video Transfer"

With either setting - DCIM/Camera folder is "Empty"

Perversely, when set to File Transfer, Explorer lists "MTP Device"

When set to Photos&Video Transfer, Explorer shows "moto g power (XT2165DL)'

Suspect issue is somehow related to ~SD card integrated as "internal storage" on Moto G

It means your photos are online and only have 6 photos saved on your android device. login to your google account at https://www.google.com/ then click the little square and choose the photos icon.
