Random WindowsApps folders just appeared on my D disk for no reason. I was installing some games on xbox games pass and I have a dedicated folder for that, however this folder suddenly appeared and i cannot delete it as it's asking for administrator permission. Can i do something about it? I have windows 10 pro.

    Hey Dave,

I have deleted the games which caused the WindowsApps and Program Files folders to be created in D:

Would it be possible to delete them now?

Yes you can quite easily you just need to change ownership of the file to yourself. Do this by clicking "properties", then "Security" and "Advanced". Then you click on "proceed" or whatever it is called in your System until you get to the window i added (Mine is in German but i hope youll recognize it). From there on you go to the top where it says "Owner" and click change. A new Window will open that will allow you to change the owner. to do that you just enter your Name (The name you log into on your PC) and click verify. If you get an error message your name is wrong. Sometimes the name you have in the System and the name Windows shows you can differ so just go to "C:\Users" and see waht name you have in the System. After entering your name and successful verification The white Box will read something like "Name of Computer/Your Name". then just proceed and dont forget to click apply in the previous window after this one closes. From then on you are the owner of the file and can change and delete it to your liking. Sometimes sub folders can cause issues tho. ANd watch out you only really delete these folders if you are 100% sure that they are empty and useless.

Hope this helps and i wish a happy new year to you!

    Hi George,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Open the Settings app, then go to System - Storage - Storage Settings

In there are any of the drop down menus set to install Store apps or games onto the D drive rather than the C drive?

If one is, that will be causing the WindowsApps folder to be created on the D drive.

Right click that WIndowsApps folder, what is the reported size of that folder?
