How to delete photos from iPhone (iOS 16) when importing to Windows 10 PC? I can find no option to delete, nor any setting

(PS I used to do this via iTunes, but no longer seem to have that option; but that's a topic for Apple forum I think. I'm using Windows Photo option that automatically pops up when I connect my iPhone to my PC)

Every time I come back to this, I am frustrated and give up. I've searched online, poked around at every setting I can think of on both iPhone and Windows.

EDIT: I found out how to do this - use Windows File Explorer instead of Windows Photo App

I found that I can do what I want by using File Explorer instead of Windows Photo App. File Explorer let me Import photos and also deleted the photos from my iPhone.

Both use the same mechanism, the different with the way iTunes used to do this is that it has full access to the iPhone device because it's an Apple product. Windows doesn't have the ability to delete or move files, only create a copy.

Elise, thank you for your reply.

Are you specifically referring to the actual Import Process, as opposed to deleting from iPhone as a separate task?

In more windows-type terms - what I'm wanting (expecting) to be able to do is MOVE rather than COPY the photos.

Your repy is actually quite clear and indicates the Photo app can only COPY; I'm just double checking!

ALSO Do you happen to know if there is any way to get back to what was prior default, using iTunes to do the Move?

Hi, I'm Elise, a fellow user like yourself and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

Unfortunately it isn't possible to due the way data is read from an iPhone using the Photos app. It is read in read-only mode, so it can't delete anything.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise
