Xbox Game Bar mic not working in parties.

Hi, i've been having this issue for a while where when I am in an xbox party, my mic will only work when I have my game bar open and on the screen. It shows an orange error symbol and when I click on the notification in the social tab it directs me to an article on how to let apps run in the background, but the instructions don't work and I know it does run in the background because I can hear people talking when its closed. The only thing that works is uninstalling and reinstalling game bar via windows powershell, but I have to do that everytime I start up my PC if I want game bar to actually work. I've tried restarting, updating my computer, letting apps run in the background via optimizing performance over energy in the windows settings, and more. None of it works.

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you're experiencing a specific issue with Xbox Game Bar on Windows, where your microphone only functions properly when the Game Bar is actively open on your screen. This can be frustrating, especially since it seems you've already tried a number of potential solutions. Let's go through a few additional troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the issue:

    1. Check Privacy Settings for Microphone:
      • Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
      • Ensure that the option "Allow apps to access your microphone" is turned on.
      • Scroll down to make sure the Xbox Game Bar is also allowed to access the microphone.
    2. Run the Audio Troubleshooter:
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
      • Select "Playing Audio" and then "Run the troubleshooter". Follow the on-screen instructions.
    3. Update Audio Drivers:
      • Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
      • Expand the “Audio inputs and outputs” section.
      • Right-click your microphone and select “Update driver”.
      • You can also check the manufacturer's website for the latest driver updates.
    4. Check Xbox Game Bar Settings:
      • Open Xbox Game Bar and go to its settings.
      • Look for any microphone-related settings and adjust them if necessary.
    5. Disable Exclusive Mode in Microphone Properties:
      • Right-click on the sound icon in your system tray and select Sounds.
      • Go to the Recording tab, right-click your microphone, and select Properties.
      • Under the Advanced tab, uncheck “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device”.
    6. Reinstall Xbox Game Bar using a Different Method:
      • Instead of using PowerShell, try uninstalling and reinstalling Xbox Game Bar through the Microsoft Store or system settings.
    7. Check for Windows Updates:
      • Sometimes, such issues are resolved in the latest Windows updates.
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security and check for updates.
    8. Create a New User Account:
      • Sometimes, user account issues can cause such problems. Try creating a new user account on your PC and see if the issue persists there.

Thank you for your patience and understanding! If you have any questions, feel free to leave us a message.

    Sincerely
