Low quality/muffled Audio on Windows 10

I have an hp omen I bought a few years ago that until this week, I had no issues with the audio, and the computer hadn't been updated recently either or any new programs installed, it seemingly just occurred randomly. The audio input sounds low quality and muffled, regardless of the device. I've tried updating the audio drivers, replacing the audio drivers, disabling all audio effects, clean booting windows, using different outputs such as Nvidia and Realtek audio outputs, and uninstalling any audio effect programs, none of which had any effect. is there anything else I haven't tried that may help?

Oh yes, the audio is also being disabled under clean boot. You can try checking a service related to audio and enable it. When you connect an external speaker, does it sound low and muffled as well? Thank you.

I've attempted a clean boot multiple times, but am unable to test the audio when windows is in clean boot due to the audio services being disabled. is there a way for me to clean boot and still retain sound?

Thank you for your reply. Please try performing a clean boot and check if the issue persists.

A clean boot initiates Windows with only the essential drivers and startup programs, enabling you to identify if a background application is causing interference with the issue. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-t... Thank you

Thank you for your response Lester, although unfortunately, even after installing Any older drivers my computer had, the problem continued. When I replaced my drivers, I installed the following driver (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/swdetails/omen-by-hp-880-000-desktop-pc-series/model/16871365/swItemId/cp-249825-1?sku=V9B60AA&serialnumber=5CC8350030) for my pc, yet the same problem continued. if there is anything else you could suggest I try, it would be much appreciated. thank you for your time

Hi Haydnsolo. My name is Lester, and I am an Independent Advisor. I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue. I'd be more than happy to assist you.

When you mentioned replacing the audio drivers, did you mean you downloaded and installed the driver directly from the HP website? If not, what is the make and model of your device? Press Windows + R, type MSINFO32 and then click OK.

In the meantime, consider using an older driver to see if this can resolve the issue:

Right-click Start Menu > Select 'Device Manager.'

Click 'View' > Show hidden devices.

Expand 'Sound, video, and game controllers.'

Right-click on your audio driver > Update

Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

Choose "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"

Select an older driver from the list and then click Next.

I hope this information is helpful. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions. Thank you
