Deactivating Bitlocker on Windows 11 Home

I wanted to dual-boot Ubuntu and Windows on my HP laptop with Windows 11 Home. I successfully partitioned the harddrive, booted Ubuntu from a flash disc, but when I tried to install it, it said that Bitlocker was encrypting my disc, and I need to turn it off. So I restarted the laptop and removed the flash disc, intending to go back to Windows and disable Bitlocker. But a blue screen saying that my computer was locked by Bitlocker, and I have to enter some passcode appeared instead. I entered the code, got back to Windows, and tried to turn Bitlocker off, however, it told me that I need to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro if I wanted to change Bitlocker settings. I wanted to try turning it off again a few days later, but I couldn't even find the encryption settings.

Is it possible to somehow turn Bitlocker off, or am I forced to continue using exclusively Windows?

    Hello, Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Thanks for your feedback, Based on my understanding, you want to turn off the BitLocker feature on your computer.

Since you have the BitLocker recovery key, you can try the following steps to disable BitLocker:

    1. Press the windows+X key, and choose Windows PowerShell (Administrator).
    2. Once opened, type the following command in the command window:

    manage-bde -unlock YourDriveLetter: -Password

The system will prompt you to enter your user password.

Simply input the password directly. It won't be visible as you type. Once done, press Enter.

    1. Next, turn off BitLocker encryption:

    manage-bde -off YourDriveLetter:

Wait for the process to complete, and your drive will be unlocked.

Below are some screenshots for your reference.

This operation will take some time, so please do it when you're free. It's best not to restart your computer until it's done.

Looking forward to getting your issue resolved.

    Enter manage-bde -status <drive letter>:

This will return a report with the conversion status and percentage of the drive that is still encrypted, along with some other things.

    Hope that helps!

I get the message 'decryption is now in progress' but the command prompt immediately appears.

    Is it still decrypting?

if yes, how do I know when it's finished?

If no then why was it immediate?

When I look at the drive in the Bitlocker app I get no options for it. i.e. nothing to say to turn Bitlocker on or off, it just shows the drive icon.
