After installing around 20% it gives an error: There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831). Tried to install it directly, but it seems like it doesn't work. I'm using Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2 OS build 19045.2251. If any other info needs to be provided let me know

Hi. My name is Lester, and I am an Independent Advisor. I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue. I'd be more than happy to assist you.

What version of Windows are you using? (Press Windows + R and then type "WINVER," and hit OK.

Method 1: Run the Windows update troubleshooter

Click the Start Menu> Go to settings(gear icon) > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.

Next, under Most Frequent, select Windows Update and click on Run > Follow the screen prompt

    Method 2: Reset Windows Components

Enter "Command Prompt" into the Windows search box, then right-click and select "Run as administrator" to proceed. After the Command Prompt opens, input the following commands and press Enter after each:

    net stop bits

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop appidsvc

    net stop cryptsvc

    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old

    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    net start bits

    net start wuauserv

    net start appidsvc

    net start cryptsvc

Restart your PC then try to update again.

Ok, I am so sorry. The solution turned out to be simpler than I thought. All I needed to do was turn off Bitdefender shields. I did do everything you told me, but, unfortunately, it didn't work and even other update started to prompt an error message. I decided to just try to disable the antivirus protection just to see, and it turned out that was the solution! I am so sorry for wasting your time. Thank you for all your solutions though![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/b1b41585-a2e6-4528-b23a-90f50630bd8a?platform=QnA

Hello, Lester! Thank you for the info. I forgot to mention that I had already tried to troubleshoot Windows Update and it did find some problems, but the update still couldn't be downloaded. I did everything in method 2, but it didn't seem to work. So, I decided to troubleshoot again, this time it said that it made some changes to system so I had to restart. After that it was stuck on: "Preparing to configure Windows. Don't turn off your PC", I thought it was actually stuck, but after two hours it booted up. Seems like I still can't download it though and direct download doesn't work as well. Are there any other solutions? Thank you! Cheers!

P.S. In method 2 I think you meant Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old because I did that instead since the original command is invalid.
